Brakes Work Example 4

WorkKey Level: 4
NATEF Automotive Tasks: V.C.7

A brake rotor has the readings below when checked at the 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 o’clock positions.

a.  What is the greatest variation of this rotor from parallel?

b.  When compared to the spec of 0.0005, is this rotor within parallelism specs? If not, by how much?

Solution:

a.  The range from the highest (0.988) to the lowest (0.986) is
     0.988 – 0.986 = 0.002

b.  The rotor is not within parallelism specs.
     It is out of specs by (0.002 – 0.005) = 0.0015.
