Work Example 20

WorkKey Level: 3
NATEF Automotive Tasks: VIII.F.4

Problem:

For every pound of pressure (psi), the boiling point rises 3 degrees Fahrenheit. What is the boiling point of a system with a 16 p.s.i. cap, assuming the boiling point of the coolant 228 degrees Fahrenheit?

Solution:

1 psi = 3 degrees
(16 pounds)(3 degrees) = 48°
48°+228° = 276°
